The local take
In the Gothic Quarter and El Raval, narrow streets hold classic cocktail bars, speakeasies, historic bars with old-world decor and tiny rooms with live jazz, flamenco and open mic nights. Gràcia feels more local, with gin bars, Cuban-style music bars and small cultural clubs that host comedy and concerts. Rooftop terraces suit an early drink with a view over the city, but dinner itself starts late here, so most bars do not get going until well into the evening.
For dancing, the clubs keep the DJ sets going into the early morning. Each spot comes with a note from the local guide who recommends it, and the chips split the list into bars, cocktail bars, live music and nightclubs.
