"A small yet graceful temple on the Acropolis, the Temple of Athena Nike always captivates me. It represents victory, and I love looking at it from all sides, admiring its architecture and sculptural decoration."

Athens Local

The Acropolis’ smallest temple (sitting below the Propylaea) serves much significance from both a cultural and architectural stance. Firstly, for its original construction (circa 420 BCE), the temple design employed Ionic columns, made to look like a scroll, and each pillar was cut from one single block of stone. You’ll only see pillars at the front and back of the open temple. Secondly, the Temple of Athena Nike was erected in honor of Athena Nike, and part of a cult to the goddess of victory. In later years parts of it were destroyed, and has since been restored.
