"The Erechthion is a site that never fails to fascinate me. It’s steeped in myth, with its beautiful Caryatids and the sacred olive tree of Athena, which I always enjoy showing to visitors."
Unlike many of the ancient buildings within the Acropolis, the Erechtheion was dedicated to both Athena as well as Poseidon-Erechtheus. (According to Greek mythology, Erechtheus was a king of Athens and is associated with Poseidon, god of the sea.) The standout feature here is six Caryatid statues of maidens holding up the side roof. Situated on the north of the Parthenon, it comprises multiple levels. Don’t miss the one lone olive tree symbolizing the sacred olive tree of Athena.
