"Another great place for wood-carved figures, known as "Alebrijes." I highly recommend visiting the workshop of Jacobo and Maria Angeles, the most famous family in Oaxaca for creating Alebrijes."
Oaxaca de Juárez Local

San Martín Tilcajete is a village about 30 kilometers south of Oaxaca and is accessible by car or private transport. It’s famous for alebrijes, brightly-colored folk art statues of different creatures. The statues are made of wood and painted with all kinds of colors. Visitors should stop by one of the dozens of workshops spread across town, like that of Jacobo and María Ángeles, who offer one of the best collections of alebrijes.
