"Perched atop a hill, São Jorge Castle boasts panoramic views of Lisbon and the Tagus River. Its medieval ruins and archaeological sites reveal the city’s rich history."
Castelo de São Jorge sits atop a hill used for defense fortifications by many cultures for over 2,000 years. While under Moorish rule in the 10th century, the castle as we know it today started to take shape and was changed over time by different kings. Visitors can explore the castle, the defense walls, gateways, and towers and see incredible panoramic views of the city from different angles within the archaeological site.
