Lisbon Local

Located in the former Aljube prison in the Santa Maria Major neighborhood, this museum is dedicated to the memory of those who fought back during Portugal’s Estado Novo dictatorship. The building is several centuries old, as it was an ecclesiastical prison and later a women’s prison. The museum’s primary collection highlights the history of the dictatorship from 1928 to 1965 and the country’s fight for freedom.
