Nightlife in Porto

Across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia, the old wine lodges pour tastings in their cellars, some with a fado show, and rooftop terraces look back at the city lighting up over the Douro. Later, the night moves into the old center, where the streets above Ribeira fill with small bars for craft beer, local wine and cocktails. Live music is the real thread: jazz jams, rock and tribute bands, post-punk and alternative nights, often in old buildings given a second life.

There are clubs for dancing late, including an LGBTQ+ favorite, but most evenings here are about good music and long conversations. Our local guides add a note to every bar, and the chips sort the list into bars, live music and nightclubs.
