Mai Chau is 150 kilometers southeast of Hanoi, about three hours by car. Many different ethnic groups inhabit this district, which means there are several festivals and celebrations throughout the year. It’s also a nice spot for nature lovers, as it has beautiful mountains and green rice paddies. While many visitors opt for a day trip to Sapa, Mai Chau is closer and less crowded.
