Lysicrates Monument

Plaka, Athens

Historic Landmark
Lysicrates Monument
"A little gem in the heart of Plaka, this ancient choregic monument (the “Oscar” prize in Ancient Athens) often surprises visitors who stumble upon it while strolling. I love pausing here to talk about theatrical contests in honor of Dionysos."

Athens Local

If you happen to be in the Plaka neighborhood, you may spot the archaic tower-shaped Lysicrates Monument (also called the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates). It’s linked to the world of theater and musical performances. Aptly so, the famous Theatre of Dionysus is a one-minute drive/six-minute walk from here. The Cine Paris outdoor movie theater is right around the corner, too (this spot features a Mediterranean rooftop garden where you can drink in Acropolis views).
