"Island charm just an hour from Athens. Take the early boat, stroll the harbor, and stock up on local pistachios. The Temple of Aphaia and seaside taverns make it feel like a mini-vacation year-round."

Athens Local

Whilst the country may be renowned for using pistachios in its cuisine, it's the historic island of Aegina that is most famous for the production of these. So much so, it’s earned Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. Hop on a ferry or local boat ride, and reach the island within an hour. It can take as quick as 15 minutes. Apart from its pistachios, there are monuments to sightsee like the Temple of Aphaia (built between 500 and 490 BCE), the Sanctuary of Apollo Delfinios, and the Archaeological Museum of Kolona.
