Porto

"A historic port town that played a crucial role in shaping the Portuguese economy in the 15th century. A day trip here is well worth it—explore its charming streets and hike to the Santa Luzia Sanctuary for one of the best viewpoints."
Viana do Castelo is an hour north of Porto on the coast. It was once an important port in the 15th century and part of the Portuguese Discoveries. There are several churches and monasteries to visit, but the Santuário de Santa Luzia is the most impressive. You won’t want to miss the Praça da República, Misericórdia building and fountain, and Gil Eanes ship commemorating the town’s maritime history.
