Grosseto, Florence & Countryside

"An Etruscan acropolis that evolved into a medieval settlement, preserving a rare continuity of habitation from antiquity through the Middle Ages."
Sorano’s roots chronicle back to the Etruscan period (between the 8th and 3rd centuries BCE). Brown-washed stone buildings rise and fall along a rockface, and the village has been built into the sides of tuffaceous rocks. Because of this, it forms one part of the three “tuff towns” of the area. It truly feels as if you’ve stepped back in time. One of the most popular things to explore is the Vie Cave (part of the Parco Archeologico Città del Tufo).
