Grosseto, Florence & Countryside

"An open-air archaeological system carved into volcanic rock, with Etruscan necropolises, rock-cut tombs and the vie cave, deep narrow roads excavated below ground level whose exact ritual and functional meaning is still debated."
Firstly, the “tuff towns” comprise Sorano, Sovana, and Vitozza, forming part of the Tufa area. The Parco Archeologico Città del Tufo grounds are centered around these three towns, and include archeological sites like Etruscan necropolises with many tombs, caves (the most famous is the Vie Cave), and rock-cut settlements, like Vitozza and Saint Rocco, with ancient abandoned fortifications and churches. Also here is the Museum of San Mamiliano. For convenience, why not stay overnight in Sorano?
