Ciutat Vella, Valencia

"My favorite building in Valencia and a UNESCO World Heritage site, this landmark tells the fascinating story of the city's economy during the Middle Ages and the Modern Era."
Valencia's Silk Exchange building was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 and is one of the world's most famous examples of Gothic architecture. During the Middle Ages, silk was the backbone of Valencia's economy. This building was built in 1492 for merchants to make deals and sign contracts. The building has a beautiful patio with orange trees, a prison for debtors, and a domed room with eight columns called the Columnario.
