Arrábida, Porto

"One of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, it recently opened the Holocaust Museum, offering insight into the history of Portuguese Jews during the World Wars."
This synagogue, the largest on the Iberian Peninsula, opened in 1938 after nearly nine years of construction. This period was when Nazis were routinely burning synagogues, and funding for Kadoorie Mekor Haim Synagogue came from the donations of Jews worldwide. In 2015, the Jewish Museum of Porto, affiliated with the synagogue, opened so visitors could learn about the history of Portuguese Jews during the World Wars.
