This celebration, which translates to burning of the ribbons, marks the end of four years of university studies for graduating college students. It originated with a group of students from Porto University in 1920, but now the whole community gets involved in throwing parades, concerts, and nighttime activities. It’s now second only to the São João celebration. It takes place near the Parque da Cidade in May when the academic year ends.
