City Center, Florence & Countryside

"This unique sporting competition sees 4 teams of locals compete in a sport like no other. A mixture of football, rugby, and MMA (yes, you read that right) is the best way to describe one of Florence's most unique and long-standing traditions"
Unique to Florence, this sport began in the 16th century. It's a mix of rugby, wrestling, and soccer and is played wearing the traditional costumes of the time. Florence has four teams that compete against each other in the plaza in front of Santa Croce. The competitions take place each year in June and end on the 24th, the feast day of Saint John the Baptist. The winning team gets to take home a Chianina calf.
