About This Tour
Milan was home to Leonardo da Vinci for twenty years during the Renaissance, and his influence on the city remains profound. On this walking tour, we will explore some of the most significant sites connected to the great master, discovering his legacy through art, history, and architecture. Our journey begins at the Ambrosiana Picture Gallery and Library, home to the Codex Atlanticus, one of the most extensive collections of Leonardo’s drawings, writings, and projects. Here, we will also admire “The Musician,” a rare portrait by Leonardo, along with masterpieces by Caravaggio, Botticelli, Raphael, and Titian. From there, a short and pleasant walk will take us past the former house of Cecilia Gallerani, the noblewoman portrayed in Leonardo’s famous painting “Lady with an Ermine.” The tour concludes at the Sforza Castle, where we will stroll through its three magnificent courtyards. Once the residence of Ludovico Sforza, Leonardo’s most important patron in Milan, the castle played a key role in the artist’s career.
