"A bustling spot with everything you could need, from fresh fish to spices. It’s one of my favourite places to explore in Athens."

Athens Local

Fresh food markets are often one of the best places to get a real feel for the local produce, especially if you enjoy cooking. Varvakeios Agora, also known as the Central Market is Athens’ first-ever food market, open since 1886. A big chunk of the market sells fresh seafood of all kinds, and another large section sells meats. However, you can also buy dried herbs and spices, all sorts of nuts, halva, cheese, and fresh produce (like peaches, strawberries, cherries, and much more).
