"A charming medieval town, perfect for a day trip. It’s famous for its religious sanctuary, accessible via a challenging staircase. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the best views."

Porto Local

Lamego is a medieval town in the Alto Douro region. Alfonso I, the first king of Portugal, was crowned here in 1139. One of the most important monuments in this town is the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios church, but you need to climb a beautiful Baroque stairway with 686 steps set on a steep hill to get there. Other sites include a Moorish castle, a Gothic cathedral, and villas from the 18th century.
