Guelaguetza is the most important celebration in Oaxaca. It started 500 years ago as a Zapotec celebration. Today, it brings people together from all over the state to eat, dance, and celebrate. The most important aspect is traditional dance and performers come from different regions to take part. The event is held in late July and early August — peak travel season — so you need to get a ticket early.
