Santa Maria Novella, Florence & Countryside

"Free of charge and tucked away in the charming backstreet of Borgo Ognissanti, this hidden gem houses an original cross by Giotto and the tomb of Florence’s greatest navigator, Amerigo Vespucci."
This church near the Arno River is one that often gets overlooked by tourists, despite being free to enter and holding both artistic and historical significance. There are several religious works by the painter Boticelli and an original cross by Giotto. This beautiful Renaissance church is loaded with art but is also the final resting place of Boticelli, as well as the famous Florentine navigator Amerigo Vespucci.
