The local take
Mezcalerías pour artisanal spirits from Oaxaca and other regions, bartenders build cocktails around mezcal, and pulquerías serve pulque, the fermented agave drink locals have enjoyed for centuries. Roma Norte has the thickest cluster of bars, from moody cocktail rooms to taprooms pouring Mexican craft beer, while the Centro Histórico keeps the classic cantinas, with early-twentieth-century interiors and, at some, a live band.
Later in the night, the music takes over: jazz clubs, salsa and Cuban bands, rock bars, and basement clubs in Condesa playing house and techno until late. Every bar, club and live music venue here was picked by one of our local guides, with a note on what makes it worth a night out; filter by cocktail bars, live music or nightclubs to plan your route.
