Yasukuni is a Shinto shrine in Chiyoda dedicated to the Japanese who died in battle. Founded in 1869, it has written records of the 2.5 million people enshrined there who died during various wars in the country’s history. There are also hundreds of cherry blossoms on site. When they bloom, the meteorological society uses them to declare the official beginning of spring.
