Palacio, Madrid

"I love how the local bakeries prepare fabulous desserts for this festival, like the Crown of Almudena."
Each November 9th, locals head to the streets dressed in traditional madrileño clothing to offer flowers to the Virgin of Almudena, another patron saint of Madrid, located inside the Almudena Cathedral. According to legend, the statue of the Virgin dates back to the year 712. Locals offer flowers and eat traditional pastries called coronas de Almudena during this street festival that goes all day long.
