This Shinto shrine in the Taito ward was dedicated in 1627 to honor Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate family. The Tokugawa Shogunate unified the feudal systems of Japan and began the Edo period. It’s an ornate shrine with carvings, gold foil, and rich colors that have stood the test of time and earthquakes. Visitors come to make wishes or prayers and leave with popular souvenirs like charms and amulets.
