"Not for the claustrophobic, but a fascinating glimpse of Paris history beneath the city. Far from creepy, it’s a must-see."

The Catacombs of Paris is an infamous landmark underneath the streets in the 14th arrondissement. There are 6 million people buried here, with row after row of bones and skulls. City officials created the burial site in the late 18th century after the city was running short on cemetery space. Visitors can walk for nearly a mile underground and take in a fascinating look at Paris’s past with a timed ticket.
