Shinobazu-no-ike Bentendo

"The Shinobazu Bentendo, believed to have been created by Tenkai, is modeled after Chikubu Island in Lake Biwa. The site features many highlights, including numerous lotus flowers, the red and splendid hexagonal hall, and the Ugajin statue."
This Buddhist temple is located on an island inside the beautiful Ueno Park. It was built in 1625 by the Buddhist monk Tenkai, who then dedicated the temple to the goddess Benzaiten, who has an enshrined statue there. Originally, visitors needed a boat to reach the temple, but there is now a bridge for easy access. Highlights of the temple include lotus flowers and the Ugajin statue.
