Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo

"Held in mid-June, this is one of the three most famous festivals in Tokyo."
This festival happens in mid-June, with the full version only taking place during even-numbered years. There is a large parade through central Tokyo that both begins and ends at the Hie Shrine and takes about nine hours to complete. Floats and people in colorful costumes accompany three portable shrines that travel through the city. Sanno Matsuri is one week long, but most of the other events are smaller compared to the parade.
