The Ambrosiana Library and Picture Gallery is an exceptional museum housed in a stunning historic building with a beautiful courtyard. Founded in the 17th century by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, it is home to Europe’s first public library and an outstanding art collection. The gallery consists of 24 rooms, featuring masterpieces by Caravaggio, Botticelli, Titian, and others. A must-see is Raphael’s draft of The School of Athens. The Reading Room on the ground floor also holds original Leonardo da Vinci manuscripts, including notes and project sketches. A true Milanese gem!
