The Nezu Shrine is one of Japan’s oldest. Legend says it can be traced back to the first century A.D. It was moved to its current location in the mid-17th century in Bunkyo City near Ueno Park. The shrine features several tunnels of torii gates, fragrant azaleas, and plenty of greenery in the summer. Walking around, you’ll also come upon koi ponds and a monument of the birthplace of Tokugawa Ienobu, the sixth shogun of Japan.
