Sol, Madrid

"One of the oldest confectioneries in town (since 1894). Delicious bombas, ensaimadas, and rosquillas."
La Mallorquina, right off Puerta del Sol, is one of Madrid's oldest and most famous pastry shops. It opened in 1894 and initially became renowned for its Mallorcan-style ensaïmadas (brioche-like pastries). Today, it offers a wider variety of pastries, as well as cakes and chocolates. Its light breakfast fare features sweet and savory options along with coffee and juice, but the charming, old-fashioned setting may entice you to return later for something more decadent.
