Kawagoe is an old trading town in Saitama Prefecture, just about 90 minutes by train from Tokyo. The town boomed during the Edo period, and its history has been pretty well preserved. There are many shrines to visit, including Kitain, one of the most important in the Kanto region. After the temple, stroll around the Warehouse District, see the famous bell tower, and enjoy tempura at Nakashoya.
