Baixa, Lisbon

"The creamy wild cherry aroma can be deceiving, masking the alcohol content. My advice—take it easy and don’t overdo it. But definitely try one at this spot!"
This family-owned ginjinha bar opened in 1890 and is still one of the trendiest places to try Lisbon’s most traditional drink. Ginja is a sour cherry liqueur typically served in a small glass as an aperitif or digestif. You can choose if you want the fruit inside the glass or without. This bar in the heart of Lisbon retains much of its 19th-century feel and is worth a visit for the ambiance alone.
