Fukagawa Fudo-do

This temple in Koto City was built in the 18th century to serve the Shingon Buddhist community. What sets it apart is the creatively modern design that makes it seem more like a store or gallery from the outside than a temple. Three times a month, monks light fires and chant sutras in the Goma fire ritual. The ritual recalls the past, even though the temple itself seems so modern and new.
