"Locals have more than one reason to be in a good mood, as this is a bank holiday. On top of that, in the evening, people flock to elevated viewpoints or the Arno river shore to see the yearly firework show."

Florence & Countryside Local

St. John the Baptist is the patron saint of Florence, so every year on his feast day, June 24, the city comes alive to celebrate. Since it's a public holiday, many things are closed around town. There's a parade, a sports competition called calcio storico, and a fireworks display over the Arno River at night. Head to the Orti di Parnaso lookout point for the best views.
