Realejo, Granada

"This is the only surviving Nasrid caravanserai in Spain. This atmospheric building once welcomed traders from across the Mediterranean and now stands as a testament to Granada’s cosmopolitan past."
During the 14th century, tradesmen would gather in this historical caravanserai (a roadside inn for merchants and caravans), selling wheat. Now, Corral del Carbón is the only Nasrid caravanserai left in Spain. Throughout the centuries, its purpose has changed, transforming into a courtyard, a coal storehouse, a national monument, and even a home. Finally restored to the building we see today during the 20th century, it's now a ticket office, and also hosts cultural events.
