San Vicente, Seville

"In 1620, Juan de Mesa carved this magnificent image of Jesus of Nazareth, known as Cristo del Gran Poder (Christ of the Great Power). It is carried in procession through the streets during the early hours of Good Friday."
This church in Plaza de San Lorenzo was built in 1965 to house the iconic Cristo del Gran Poder statue. The statue, made in 1620, is carried through the neighborhood streets on Good Friday during the city’s famous Holy Week processions. The church mixes Renaissance and Baroque styles and has a colorful façade typical of Sevilla. You can often hear the bells of the belfry throughout the neighborhood.
