Siena, Florence & Countryside

"A Romanesque abbey founded in the early Middle Ages and rebuilt in the 12th century, isolated in open countryside and long connected to pilgrimage routes and imperial power."
At Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, join a miniature painting course or a Gregorian chant course, and explore the Abbey Herbarium (forming part of the Garden of Saint Hildegard grounds). There’s also the really interesting Monastic pharmacy, where you can buy food (made from centuries-old monastic herbal tradition recipes) and body care products of medicinal herbs. Home of Benedictine monks since the abbey was built in the 12th century, there is still a small group of these monks who live here today.
